Besides being in Fitness first, we are, after all a flooring company. We realize that most of you didn’t enter your businesses because you were flooring experts. But safe and proper flooring is a necessity in any fitness facility and so you’re going to, at some point, want to know that you’re investing in the right one for your facility.
That’s part of what this blog is about too – how to be a one-time expert in the purchase of the right flooring for your facility.
Here’s a question for you: What’s the most important piece of equipment that you purchase for your group exercise area?
If you guessed “flooring” (and honestly, we made it easy to do so), you’d be correct.
No matter what kind of activities go on in that room, you’ve got to make sure that your flooring has the proper traction and shock absorption to ensure that your participants performance are at their best and safest.

I believe in proper flooring. Could you send me info so that I can purchase the most appropriate flooring. Also an idea of the cost may help my decision
Im building a home gym in my basement and I
Love the rubber flooring but am not sure what thickness is best on top of a cement floor. Is 1/4 inch safe for exercise or is 3/8 significantly better. I’m looking to cover a 1000 square foot area.
For a home gym, typically 1/4″ is all that is needed. We recommend a minimum of 3/8″ for a commercial facility only because of the increased amount of traffic. However 1/4″ will almost certainly need to be glued to the cement subfloor. Sometimes, with the thicker material, one can get away without gluing it down and just using double-faced tape on the seams to keep the material in place. But the 1/4″ material does not have the weight that the 3/8″ and is more likely to shift if it isn’t glued in place.
